Verbs and the Future Time
English does not really have a future tense. We can use BE GOING TO, the present continuous, WILL or SHALL and sometimes we can use the present simple.

Personal plans and intentions

If you are deciding now, use WILL or SHALL:

I think I'll visit my uncle tomorrow.
I think I will take the exam next summer.
Just a minute and I'll get him for you.
"What's for dinner?" - "I don't know, I'm tired so maybe we'll order some pizza."

If you have already decided, use BE GOING TO:

I'm going to visit my uncle tomorrow.
"Students, quiet please! Tomorrow we're going to have an exam."
What's for dinner? We're going to have chicken; now go and wash your hands because it's nearly ready.

If you have already decided AND you have made arrangements, or it is in the near future, use the present continuous:

I'm visiting my uncle tomorrow.
The teacher says we're having a test tomorrow.
"What's for dinner?" - "We're going to have chicken; now go and wash your hands because it's nearly ready."

Predictions

If you have little evidence to make a prediction, use WILL or SHALL:

England have a good team, but Brazil are world champions. They'll probably lose this game.
There are a few clouds in the sky, maybe it will rain this afternoon.
This time tomorrow, I'll be relaxing on the beach.

If you have a lot of evidence to make a prediction, use BE GOING TO:

If they play like that for the whole game, they're going to lose.
It's really cold! And look at the clouds in the sky! I think it's going to snow.
We need 20 minutes to finish, but there's only 10 minutes left. We're not going to have time.

Fixed events

We use the present simple for timetables and fixed events:

My plane leaves at six this evening.
The sun rises tomorrow at 6:32.
The course begins next week.

NOTICE that the future is never certain. We can often use the modal verbs COULD, MAY and MIGHT, and also SHOULD to show how possible we think something is.
